The trio Red Cloud had disbanded at this
point. Myra moved to NYC, and I was just kicking around the scene with
various friends and collaborators mainly writing songs and focusing on
making the move to Nashville. |

Our final night at The Barnacle. The club
was going under, and we were paid with a bad check by the club
manager. We never recovered the
money from the club and the loss was nearly a breaking point for the
band. We heard The Barnacle was destroyed some years later in a
hurricane. |

Two great
shows at an old washed up/converted boat on the bay. Bruce's bass amp
kept rolling across the stage because the whole boat was leaning. We
stayed in a trailer on the beach. |

Debut show for
the trio.
We played three hours, 9-12. Great response. More shows resulted. We had heard that Emmylou Harris
used to play there. Many years later I talked with Emmylou about it, and
she said there was no stage at Aliza's when she played there...just a
jukebox that she stood beside with her guitar. |

Many Shows |
Byron Hill, with Gene Wooten |
As a bluegrass duo. Sometimes we added an upright bass
player. We played mostly a regular gig at the Villager Hotel (may have
been the Four Seasons Hotel then) on top of Beech Mt.,
but also played the occasional firehouse, square dance/clogging events,
and one very memorable party for the Carolina Caribbean Corporation
where they paid us to play 'Dueling Banjos' over and over all night! |
|
1971-1972 |
Boone, NC |

Byron Hill, with Liston Smith |
We did at least one of these gigs, maybe more. |
